Sun Devil football and McClintock High School graduate Marcus Williams joined the Sun Devil athletic department staff in spring of 2021.
He will be a sport administrator for the track and field, cross country and football programs and offer assistance with student conduct, along with oversee the student-athlete drug education and testing policy. He will also be highly involved across all sports in developing and maintain strong relationships with both high school and alumni
A native of Arizona, he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Justice Studies and was a member of the 1997 Rose Bowl and Sun Bowl teams and earned first-team All-Pac Ten honors as a punter his senior year.
After graduation, Marcus pursued the professional ranks by competing in two training camps with the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots and played with the Rhein Fire in the NFL Europe, along with a quick stint with the XFL’s, Las Vegas Outlaws.
After two years pursing roster spot in the NFL, he decided to begin teaching and coaching at Marcos de Niza High School where he taught special education and coached basketball and football.
While he was teaching, her earned two master’s degrees. He earned his first master’s in special education and the second in educational leadership.
Marcus remained teaching and coaching at Marcos de Niza for seven years and in 2007 became the first Assistant Principal-Athletic Director at Williams Field High School in the Higley Unified School District. He served in that position for three years before taking on the same duties at Perry High School in the Chandler Unified School District for two years.
He earned Certified Master Athletic Administrator status and served on various committees in and out of athletics, including the 6A Conference Premier Region chair and is on the AIAAA Board of Directors representing the 6A Conference.
In 2014 and in 2021 Marcus received the AIAAA State Award of Merit for significant contributions towards athletics in the state of Arizona. Marcus receive the AIAAA Distinguished Service Award for his contributions to athletic administration at the local, state and national levels.
Marcus currently resides in Chandler, AZ with his wife Jamie, and daughter Mikaila.
He has volunteered with the Chandler Fire Department as a Crisis Responder.
