Jack Clark, a member of the U.S. Rugby Hall of Fame, enters his 34th year in 2016-17 as head coach at the University of California, where he has won 27 combined national collegiate championships with an all-time collegiate coaching record of 614-78-5 (.880) in 15s and 109-14 (.886) in the Olympic Games version of 7s.
Clark coached the Collegiate All-American Team from 1985-1992 and was head coach of the U.S. National Team from 1993-1999, during which time the United States won 16 international test matches, the most victories ever by a U.S. national team coach. He also served as head coach of the All-Marine rugby team, which he led to a silver medal in the 2006 Armed Forces Rugby Championship.
Clark was chosen in 2000 by the Daily Californian as one of Cal’s Ten Most Influential Sports Figures of the 20th Century; received in 2001 the Craig Sweeney Award, bestowed to former U.S. internationals for their “significant contribution to the game; was selected in 2015 as one of Cal’s “Pac-12 Legends” in a video series produced by the conference; received in 2016 the Glenn Seaborg Award, bestowed on a former Cal football player for career accomplishments; and will be enshrined in November into the Cal Athletic Hall of Fame.
A past chairman of the Cal Head Coaches Advisory Board, Clark has also received National Coach of the Year awards and numerous Cal Coach of the Year awards. He is a frequent guest lecturer and presenter in academia, the corporate world and sports community on his expertise, “The Values of High-Performance Teams.”
