A career educator, Jim Osborne spent 26 years in education as both a teacher and a principal. Jim’s background also includes 20 years as Director of Camp Tara, on Vermont’s Lake Champlain. In 1975, as a first year teacher, he saw a lack of opportunities for female athletes at his middle school, and started a basketball program that continues to this day in Barre Vermont. After earning a Master’s Degree in School Administration he moved on to Rice Memorial High School, becoming assistant coach of the undefeated 1983 (23-0) Vermont Division I state champions. After 16 season’s at Rice, Jim went on to coach the Trinity College of Vermont women’s team. In 1999, the Crusaders finished 21-5, and won both the Northern Independent Conference regular season and postseason tournament titles, as well as the NSCAA New England championship. Trinity took a #1 ranking to the 1999 National Small College Athletic Association Tournament in Kansas. Coach Osborne was inducted into the Northern Vermont University-Johnson Athletic Hall of Fame in September of 2002 in recognition of his 25 years coaching women’s sports. Jim was head women’s basketball coach at Haverford College in suburban Philadelphia from 2001-2008. Jim spent three years working with Tramatic Brain Injured adults as a Certified Brain Injury Specialist. He continues to develop materials educating youth league parents on the dangers of Sports Concussions as a volunteer for the Council on Brain Injury. He currently serves as the Director of Clinical Experiences at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.
