Positive Coaching Alliance Establishes National Partnership With Boys & Girls Clubs of America

09.24.2018

Mountain View, CA — Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), a national non-profit developing BETTER ATHLETES, BETTER PEOPLE through youth and high school sports -- has partnered with Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA) to bring coach education and training to BGCA ALL STARS coaches. BGCA has been dedicated to helping young people on the path to a great future for over 100 years and shares PCA’s desire to keep youth active and involved in character-building activities.

Through this long-term collaboration BGCA ALL STARS coaches will have free access to PCA's online Double-Goal Coach® training and the ongoing support and tools they need to help youth athletes improve in sports, and more importantly, in life. PCA’s support reinforces BGCA’s existing five key elements of positive youth development (build a safe, positive environment, offer opportunities and set expectations, establish supportive relationships, provide recognition and create fun).

“Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s mission is to be a place where children and teens participate in programs and experiences that prepare them to become the best version of themselves,” said Jennifer Bateman, National Vice President, Youth Development Programs with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “The partnership with PCA supports the ALL STARS program by not only helping kids and teens get moving but also learn the critical values and life lessons needed to shape a great future for themselves.”

"We're excited to partner with Boys & Girls Club of America and their ALL STARS program to not only provide opportunities for kids to be active, but to give them a positive and character-building time in sports," said Jason Sacks, PCA's VP of Business Development and Philanthropy. "We look forward to supporting the ALL STARS coaches in their positive coaching journey."

BGCA and PCA hope their work together in these communities can benefit all BGCA programs not only by providing training and resources to help coaches improve but by helping to create healthier, happier future leaders.

About Positive Coaching Alliance

Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) develops BETTER ATHLETES, BETTER PEOPLE through resources for youth and high school sports coaches, parents, administrators and student-athletes. In addition to more than 1,800 free multimedia tips and tools at www.PCADevZone.org, PCA has partnered with roughly 3,500 schools and youth sports organizations nationwide to deliver more than 20,000 live group workshops, along with online courses and books by PCA Founder Jim Thompson that help those involved in youth and high school sports create a positive, character-building youth sports culture.

PCA resources, which have reached more than 15 million youth, strive to transform high school and youth sports into a Development Zone® culture, where the goal is to develop Better Athletes, Better People and the following become the prevailing models in youth and high school sports:

  • The Double-Goal Coach®, who strives to win while also pursuing the more important goal of teaching life lessons through sports
  • The Second-Goal Parent®, who concentrates on life lessons, while letting coaches and athletes focus on competing
  • The Triple-Impact Competitor®, who strives to impact sport on three levels by improving oneself, teammates and the game as a whole.

PCA gains support from a National Advisory Board, including National Spokesperson and 11-time NBA Champion Coach Phil Jackson, and many other top coaches, athletes, organization leaders and academics who share PCA’s mission. PCA is proud to partner with the National Hockey League, National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball and over 35 professional teams across the United States.
