PCA Colorado Update Brought to You by HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Pediatric Orthopedics

Denver Broncos Foundation provides PCA with Grant Funding

The Denver Broncos Foundation recently awarded PCA a grant to support positive coach training with a focus on mental wellness over the next two years.  With this funding, PCA will equip coaches with a better awareness of adolescent mental health issues and an ability to create environments where kids feel a sense of belonging and connectedness.  Coaches have a unique opportunity to address the crisis affecting so many youth by reaching them in the high-engagement environment of youth and high school football teams.

PCA Partners with Denver Parks & Rec

We are excited to announce a new partnership with Denver Parks & Rec.  The year-long partnership launched on December 5th with a Coach training for over 100 youth basketball coaches.  The partnership will focus on youth basketball this winter, and youth football in the Fall with support from the Denver Broncos Foundation grant.

BOLDER Boulder Race Director Cliff Bosley addresses PCA Leadership Council

On November 14th, Cliff Bosley met with PCA’s Leadership Council to share the story of the iconic Colorado road race.   The BOLDER Boulder places a significant emphasis on youth and family participation, and this underscores how valuable healthy family fitness can be for kids throughout their lives.

As temperatures drop, staying active becomes more challenging, but maintaining fitness during the colder months is essential for overall health and performance, especially for young athletes. HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Pediatric Orthopedics encourages families to embrace winter workouts while prioritizing safety and warmth. Cold weather doesn’t have to be a barrier—activities like running, cycling, or even outdoor sports can continue with the right precautions. The key is proper preparation to prevent injuries and stay comfortable in cooler conditions.

To stay safe, dress in moisture-wicking layers to regulate body temperature and prevent hypothermia or overheating. Start with a breathable base layer, add an insulating middle layer, and finish with a windproof or waterproof outer layer for protection against the elements. Don’t forget to wear gloves, hats, and proper footwear with good traction to avoid slips on icy surfaces. Warm up indoors before heading out to loosen muscles and prevent strain. Finally, remember to stay hydrated—cold weather can mask dehydration symptoms, but your body still needs fluids to perform optimally.

We’re also excited to share that HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children’s—a long-time partner of PCA—is now part of the larger HCA HealthONE network. With an extensive network of specialists, Emergency Departments, and Urgent Cares across Greater Denver, expert care for your family is always nearby.
