Nomar Garciaparra and Mia Hamm Share Parenting Insights

04.12.2018

PCA-Los Angeles’ Positive Sports Parent Series with Nomar Garciaparra and Mia Hamm was an eye-opening experience from two of the most famous and successful athletes in their sports. Steering twin 11-year-old girls and a 6-year-old son through the variety of options available in youth sports, their preference was for their kids to just play an have fun.

Nomar emphasized playing multiple sports as played three sports in High School and two in College. Mia was focused and giving her kids freedom to just play on their own with their natural instinct taking over.

The event was aired on facebook live, and you can see watch the full-length footage below.

The event started with a PCA Second-Goal Parent Workshop delivered by PCA-LA Development Manager Marti Reed who was a NCAA Softball Champion at UCLA. Marti conveyed the PCA principles of the ELM Tree of Mastery and Filling Emotional Tanks.

The panel discussion was moderated by PCA-LA Board Chair Ellen Robbins and PCA-LA Board Member and Children’s Hospital Physician, Bianca Edison who stressed that sports specialization is leading to overuse injuries that have not been seen in youth athletes before.

Thank you to the Bay Club who sponsors the Positive Sports Parent Series through EcoMedia CBS and to El Camp USA, where PCA-LA offices are for hosting the events.
