Dodgers Dreamteam & PCA Coaches Training Series – 2025 Recap

In spring and early summer 2025, PCA joined forces with the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, Nike, Center for Healing and Justice through Sport (CHJS), and the Dodgers Training Academy to deliver 14 transformative coach training sessions over a five day period across Southern California, culminating in a capstone event at iconic Dodger Stadium. The calendar of events through the partnership were as follows:

  1. April 12Event 1 at Dodger Stadium launched the series with coaches from across LA County. Participants rotated through trauma-informed coaching, PCA-led cultural competence, and skill-building content—followed by a fireside chat with Dodgers first base coach Chris Woodward.
  2. April 26Event 2 at Richard Garvey Intermediate focused on fundamentals and youth engagement.
  3. May 10Event 3 at Nike LA, hosted by the BGC of West San Gabriel Valley & Eastside.
  4. June 1Event 4 at Long Beach State included paired workshops from CHJS and PCA and a closing DTA skills clinic.
  5. June 14Event 5 at Dodgers Stadium served as the culminating celebration. Coaches experienced the full series, received team giveaways, and celebrated their learning at the ballpark.

Beyond the X’s and O’s

Across all five events, PCA delivered essential learning in cultural competence—part of our mission to foster empathetic and positive coaching environments. Coaches engaged in interactive workshops built on PCA’s core training model, facilitated by experienced PCA Trainers.

Other key instructional areas included:

  • Trauma-informed coaching methods
  • Healing-centered sport frameworks
  • Youth development strategies rooted in Living Jackie’s Nine Playbook
  • Practical baseball & softball fundamentals from Dodgers Training Academy

The final session on June 14th was more than just a training—it was a truly immersive experience. Coaches had the opportunity to tour parts of Dodger Stadium, pose with the 2024 World Series trophy, and each participant received two tickets to a Dodgers home game. The event also included snacks and time to connect with fellow coaches, fostering a strong sense of community and shared purpose.

To cap it all off, raffle prizes—including autographed Dodgers jerseys—added excitement and celebration to the day.

In total, the Dodgers Dreamteam Coaches Training Series engaged over 700 coaches across five sessions, marking a significant expansion of the program and a meaningful investment in the future of youth sports across Los Angeles.

Program Impact

This year’s five-session series aligned with the Dodgers Dreamteam’s expansion—projected to serve 15,000 youth at 122 community sites. As part of LADF’s 12th DREAMTEAM season, coaching training functioned as a key foundation for delivering equitable access to youth sports, wellness, and mentorship.

By embedding PCA-led cultural competence and CHJS-led trauma-informed frameworks, the program extended beyond athletic skills—by modeling and celebrating positive youth development in action.

Thank you to all our partners—Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, Nike, CHJS, and Dodgers Training Academy—and to the coaches who show up for youth, for sport, and for their community every day.
