450 Total Hours through May 1, 2026 – November 30, 2026 (16-24 hours a week)

Searching for 4 AmeriCorps members located in the San Francisco Bay Area (2 supporting San Francisco, 2 supporting Oakland) 

 

Overview:
Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) is seeking a motivated, mission-aligned intern to support Community Impact efforts to grow coach pipelines, encouraging community members to become coaches across the Oakland and San Francisco areas. This role will support direct service opportunities, event activation, and partner engagement by assisting with coach recruitment events (including class presentations, tabling, Lunch & Learns, symposiums, and Play Days), maintaining coach rosters and partner portals, capturing coach success stories, and supporting bi-weekly communications with Coach Recruitment partners. The intern will also contribute to sport equity coalition meetings in Oakland and/or San Francisco, follow-up on coach recruitment plans, webinar preparation, and tools/resource development.

CALIFORNIA MEN’S SERVICE CHALLENGE INITIATIVE:

The California Men’s Service Challenge is a statewide initiative launched by Governor Gavin Newsom to combat rising loneliness, suicide rates, and disconnection among young men. It calls for 10,000 men to serve as mentors, coaches, and tutors to support youth, fostering community connection and providing pathways to career and personal success.

 

Key Responsibilities (60%):

  • Support Community Impact Coach Recruitment Partner(s) with direct service by coaching and/or working in their youth sports program
  •  Represent PCA at community events including:
    • College class presentations and campus tabling
    • Lunch & Learns
    • Coach/Youth Sports symposiums and community gatherings
    • Sport Equity Coalition note-taking and setup
    • Play Days and partner-led events
  • Support coach recruitment efforts by:
    • Attending Bay Area Coalition and partner meetings
    • Assisting with follow-up
    • Leading action teams and next steps.
  • Maintain and update recruited coach rosters and recruitment tracking lists in your dedicated region including:
    • Updating the Partner Portal with relevant tools, resources, and announcements
    • Outlining and drafting bi-weekly communications to Coach Recruitment partners
    • Assisting with site visits to observe coaches in action, collect surveys and conduct interviews and/or focus groups (as needed)
    • Capture and document coach success stories, testimonials, and impact highlights for internal reporting and external storytelling
    • Assist with end of season data collection, helping to ensure coach and youth sports participation is accurate
    • Assist with webinar and virtual event support, including panelist preparation, coordination, and follow-up.
  • Support awareness building and amplification of the critical need for youth sports coaches in underserved communities by creating social media content.  

Capacity Building (30%)

  • Coordinating ongoing male volunteer recruitment campaigns
  • Creating resources and systems to recruit and engage at least 1,400 male mentors/coaches
  • Assist with the development of tools/resources aimed at developing the capacity of Coach Recruitment Partners to better recruit, support and manage coaches, focusing on male coach recruitment.
  • Developing and disseminating new service-learning and leadership resources that promote male mentorship

Supervision and Training (10%)

  • Attending the pre-service Orientation
  • Attending a mid-term Focus Group with other members
  • Attending weekly calls/webinars with supervisor.
  • Create an end of season coach impact report

 

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):

  • Background or interest in youth sports, coaching, kinesiology, education, child development, communications, or nonprofit work
  • Strong verbal communication skills 
  • Organized, dependable, and self-directed
  • Passion for equity and inclusion in youth sports or education
  • Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student (or recent graduate)
  • Ability to commit 16-24 hours per week for the full duration
  • Reliable access to transportation to attend Bay Area events
  • Reliable access to a computer with internet and Google Workspace tools (this will not be provided)

 

Time Requirement

  • 25-35 hours per week, flexible schedule to serve May-November
  • Selected applicants will be required to attend a virtual interview during the January-April hiring period
