Marc Schmatjen (pronounced “smidgen” – rhymes with “pigeon”) is a California native who swam and played water polo for Davis High School and played collegiate water polo at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. After eighteen years in engineering, Marc began his second career as a children’s book author and a humor columnist.

He got a chance to be a baseball and softball umpire in high school and college, and after his kids were born, Marc was blessed to be able to coach them in youth baseball with the Rocklin PONY organization for eleven years, with Rocklin Lacrosse for four years, and for two years at the high school level with Whitney High Water Polo.

Marc coached his last game in 2022 and is now a full-time fan, as well as a part-time high school lacrosse PA announcer. He’s passionate about keeping youth sports focused on what’s most important – teaching young people the skills and mindset to learn from their failures and create their own successes, in and out of sports, now, and more importantly, into their future as adults.
