Darryl Nirenberg promotes and protects clients’ interests before the US Congress, federal agencies, and the White House, with a focus on clients engaged in consumer products and services. He is adept in Senate legislative and parliamentary procedures and in developing and executing complex legislative and regulatory strategies, and advising and assisting clients on issues involving international trade and domestic commerce, including agriculture, gaming, taxation, antitrust, and homeland security.

Darryl has been involved in numerous high-profile legislative matters, ranging from enactment of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 and of exemptions to the medical device tax provisions of the Affordable Care Act, to enactment of The Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers Act and initiatives related to trade with China and Internet gaming. He has also been active in the reform of and implementation of domestic agricultural programs, tax treatment of real estate investment trusts (REITS) and non-profit entities, and exploration of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Prior to entering private practice, Darryl served for more than a dozen years in senior legislative positions in the US Senate, where he managed major domestic and foreign policy legislation. As Republican Counsel and Deputy Staff Director of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, he managed the committee’s legislative activities, including reauthorizations of the Foreign Aid and Senate Authorization Acts, the Arms Export Control Act, and international sanctions legislation. He also served as Chief of Staff to Senator Jesse Helms, where he was responsible for banking, financial, and judicial issues. Additionally, while attending law school, Darryl served as Republican professional staff member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, where he handled international agricultural and trade law issues, and authored the Food for Progress Program.
