Declining Sports Participation Rates

Did you know?

Only 23.2% of high school students meet the CDC’s recommended 60 minutes of daily physical activity. The number drops even further for Hispanic/Latino students (20.9%) and especially for girls (15.4%). (Source: globalsportmatters.com)

The rising cost of youth sports is debilitating

A survey was conducted by the Commission on the State of U.S. Olympics and Paralympics, with half of the respondents who played youth sports or who have children who have played saying they have struggled to afford the costs to participate. The issue impacts a broad range of Americans of all backgrounds, but Latino/a families felt it most.

This Needs to Change

It’s time to break down these barriers and ensure all youth have access to opportunities that keep them active and healthy.
