Dr. Elder grew up in Jackson/ Massillon, Ohio and attended The Ohio State University for undergraduate (BS cum laude, Microbiology) and the Medical College of Ohio/University of Toledo for medical school.  He then made his way to Florida in 1999, to complete his Family Medicine residency, followed by his Sports Medicine Fellowship at Bayfront Medical Center in Saint Petersburg Florida.  He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and is Board Certified in Sports Medicine and Family Medicine. He has been in practice in South Tampa with BayCare Medical Group for 22 years, and created the Sports Medicine program within BayCare.

He grew up playing soccer and basketball, and the life lessons and connections he learned while playing sports influenced him greatly in his career path as well as providing education in various life skills.  Dr Elder has set the standard in the Tampa Bay region utilizing MSK US for diagnostic and interventional procedures.  He is an expert in cellular therapy / Orthobiologic options including platelet rich plasma.  A proven leader, he was one of the first physicians in the Tampa Bay region to use this important option.  He built his Sports Medicine practice to encompass the breath of adult and pediatric Sports Medicine, interventional orthopedic procedures done in office, nonoperative fracture care, and cellular therapy/ regenerative medicine options.  Service to his community is important as demonstrated by his volunteer medical coverage which encompasses all levels of sport: Over 25 years of High School Football, as well as various collegiate, professional/ international levels. He served as Team Physician for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009-2014, and subsequently as a team physician for US Ski Team and US Soccer.  He presently serves as 1 of 5 physicians in the country serving as Team Physician for US Soccer Men’s National Team since 2019. Dr. Elder has served on various boards, including the FHSAA Sports Medicine Advisory Committee.

He loves the Tampa Bay region and all it has to offer including fishing/ boating, golf, excellent sports, and a vibrant culture.  He attributes his success in no small part to the household GM- his wife Stephanie-who is also trained as a physician and presently teaches high school anatomy.  He has been fortunate to see his 3 kids grow up in the Tampa Bay region and participate as their coach of various sports along the way. His professional responsibilities and personal love of travel have taken him to 37 countries (and counting)- and he is always excited to return to Tampa at the end of each trip.
