Play Day Events Bring Positive Youth Sports Experiences to Communities Across the Country

Sports and play have the power to bring communities together while creating opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and have fun.
In celebration of LA84 Foundation and the Play Equity Fund‘s National Day of Play, Positive Coaching Alliance teamed up with organizations across the country in recognizing the importance of safe and easy access to meaningful play experiences.

As part of the celebration, Positive Coaching Alliance partnered with local organizations to host Play Day events in Oakland, San Francisco, and Baltimore, welcoming approximately 140 youth for a day of movement, connection, and discovery. Participants had the opportunity to try a variety of sports in welcoming environments designed to foster self-confidence, belonging, and joy. These events introduced youth and families to local sports providers that offer free/low-cost programming to increase sports participation and close the sports equity gap.
Throughout the day, it was inspiring to see so many young people embrace new activities, build connections with their peers, and simply enjoy the experience of playing together. Events like these highlight what is possible when organizations work together to expand access to youth sports and create positive experiences for every child.

We are grateful to our local co-hosts, Oakland Unified School District YES! Sports, Bayview Hunters Point YMCA, and Southwest Sports & Fitness Alliance for helping make these events possible, as well as the amazing youth sport providers who volunteered their time, talents, and energy to bring quality playtime and connection to life in a meaningful way. We also thank the LA84 Foundation and the Play Equity Fund for bringing communities together in celebration of the National Day of Play and the belief that every young person deserves the opportunity to experience the benefits of play.
Together, we are helping create a future where more young people can experience the joy, connection, and lifelong benefits of sports.
