Regional Board Members

Matt leads the sports tourism department at Sport Oregon, the state’s standalone sports commission. As the Director of Sports Tourism, he leads the competitive bid process for hosted events, and manages tourism relationships throughout the state to support those events. Matt has worked in sports tourism since 2012, on both coasts, focusing on bringing world-class grassroots, collegiate, and professional sporting events to the market, and working with local partners to make these events successful.

Prior to joining Sport Oregon in early 2020, Matt worked as the National Sports Sales Manager for Team San Jose in the California Bay Area. From 2014 – 2019 during Matt’s tenure in San Jose, the city and region enjoyed an unprecedented stretch of success in landing large-scale sporting events, including WrestleMania 31, Super Bowl 50, the 2019 NHL All-Star game, and the 2019 College Football National Championship. San Jose also played host to the 2016 Women’s Gymnastics Olympic Trials, 2018 U.S. Figure Skating National Championships, and several 1st/2nd and regional rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, among other high-profile events.

Originally from Emporium, PA, Matt grew up playing basketball and still holds a special affinity for the sport. Matt holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts & Sciences from Penn State University, and a Master’s degree in Sport & Recreation Management from Temple University. While pursuing his degree at Temple, Matt served as a graduate assistant and assistant director of basketball operations for the Princeton University men’s basketball program. He currently resides in Beaverton with his wife, Laura, and son, Ben. When he’s not working, he’s probably exercising, cooking, or being generally heartbroken by the Sixers and/or Nittany Lions.
