PCA Staff, Tampa Bay, Mentors
College: University of Florida
Sport: Track & Field and Cross-Country
Mason started with PCA-Tampa Bay in 2016 as a certified Trainer and two years later took the position of Community Impact Manager with the organization. Now, and for the last three years, she has led as the chapter’s Executive Director.
Mason joined PCA-Tampa Bay after working for New Balance where she was responsible for account relationships, technical training, and sales with specialty running stores across the state of Florida.
She grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and moved to the Tampa/St Pete area after coaching college track & field and cross-country for 10 years and running professionally during that time. Growing up in an athletic and ambitious family, Mason has had a passion for sports since early childhood. She won 13 state championships in high school and competed on a full scholarship at the University of Florida (UF). After completing graduate school in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology from UF, she coached at Duke University and at the University of Central Florida (UCF). She then found herself with the desire to train and compete once again. From 2008-2012 she ran professionally for Saucony while continuing her coaching career. She coached the USA junior women’s team in cross-country in Scotland and recruited for and worked with Butler University’s men’s and women’s teams. She finished 4th at the PanAmerican Games in Mexico in the 3000m Steeplechase, represented the USA in cross-country and track and field in Europe, and ran an Olympic standard to automatically qualify her for the finals in Steeplechase at the 2012 Olympic Trials. She then went on to coach at Oklahoma State University where she worked with Dave Smith, a multiple time recipient of Coach of the Year and with numerous NCAA National Champions.
Since moving back to Florida, Mason assisted in coaching at Tampa Prep in 2015-2016 and continues to work on sport specifics with athletes of various ages throughout the year.
Today, Mason’s sport of choice remains to be running, but you can often talk her into joining you for a swim or tennis match. The competitive spirit still runs high!
