Dave Allen competed in baseball, basketball, soccer and track and field before starting to focus on swimming in 8th grade. His first coaching position was his senior year of high school as an assistant coach for a YMCA swim team. Dave swam his first two years in college, and then switched to coaching his junior year, coaching both a high school boys swim team and a YMCA team. He graduated from Bridgewater State College with a degree in Physical Education with concentrations in Athletic Training and Health Education Grades 5-12 in 1992. He then started pursuing his master’s degree in Human Performance at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. During this time, he worked as an Athletic Trainer and then Assistant Swimming and Diving Coach at Saint Mary’s University in Minnesota. Since 1998, he has been at Mount Holyoke College as the Head Swimming and Diving Coach. In his department, he was the lead person in developing a coaching education class in 2008 that has led to a minor in sport pedagogy. Dave has also been a reviewer for NCACE and is now serving on NASPE’S Sports Steering committee.
