Brent D. Lang is a business advisor, mentor, board member, and Olympic gold medalist. Previously, he was the Chair and CEO of Vocera Communications, a public company that was based in Silicon Valley until it was acquired by Stryker in February 2022.
Currently, Brent is the Chair of the board of USA Swimming, the national governing body of competitive swimming. Brent is on the board of Outset Medical (NASDAQ:OM), a medical technology company developing hemodialysis systems. He is also Chair of the Board at Eko Health, an AI healthcare diagnostics company. Brent is also on the Board of Apella Inc., an AI healthcare company using computer vision to drive efficiencies in the Operating Room.
From June 2013 to February 2022, Brent was the CEO of Vocera, a global leader in clinical communication and workflow solutions, until the company was acquired by Stryker in 2022. Prior to being named CEO, he was the company’s president and chief operating officer and a key member of the team that led the successful IPO for Vocera in March 2012. He served as the company’s vice president of marketing and business development for nearly six years and was one of the first business leaders to join the company in 2001.
Brent graduated summa cum laude from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in industrial and operations engineering before earning an MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business. While at the University of Michigan, he was a four-time NCAA champion, and a member of the 1988 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team and won a Gold Medal in the 4X100 Freestyle Relay at the Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
Brent’s interest in working with PCA comes from his own experiences with youth sports, as a competitor, coach and parent, and his belief that positive experiences in youth sports can lead to tremendous opportunities for learning and personal growth.
