Dr. Jim Dean is a veteran educational leader and athletic administrator currently serving as the Executive Director of the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA), a role he has held since July 2025. With more than three decades of experience in Arizona’s public education system, he is widely recognized for advancing academic excellence, championship-level athletic programs, strong community partnerships, and sound fiscal management.

Prior to leading the AIA, Dr. Dean served for 18 years in the Dysart Unified School District, including as Superintendent from 2021 to 2023. As the district’s chief administrator, he oversaw educational programming, student achievement initiatives, operational budgets, and strategic planning efforts that strengthened instructional, athletic, and arts programs. His leadership also included roles as Assistant Superintendent for High School Student Services and District Athletic Director, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, Director of Public Relations, and School Principal—positions in which he launched award-winning communications campaigns, innovative HR systems, and state-recognized academic and athletic programs. A former middle school math teacher and state championship coach, he also coached football, softball, and baseball at the high school level, building programs defined by competitive success
and student development.

His numerous honors include induction into the Arizona Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Hall of Fame (2024) and recognition as Arizona School Administrator Distinguished Administrator of the Year (2020). Dr. Dean earned a Doctorate in Educational Administration from Acacia University, a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor of Science from Grand Canyon University.
