K. Brooke Pengel, MD, CAQ-SM a board-certified pediatric sports medicine physician with fellowship training in adolescent and youth sports medicine. She earned her undergraduate degree at Dartmouth College and her medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, then completed her pediatric residency and sports medicine fellowship at the University of Colorado, including a visiting Chief Residency year at UConn.
Throughout her career, Dr. Pengel has cared for young athletes across a wide range of sports and levels of competition, including extensive experience in team and sideline coverage. Her clinical interests include injury prevention, safe return-to-play decision-making, and promoting long-term musculoskeletal health in pediatric and adolescent athletes.
She serves on the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee for the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) and previously served for six years on the Executive Committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Sports Medicine and Fitness, where she contributed to national policy development and published position statements focused on youth sports safety.
A former collegiate tennis player at Dartmouth College, Dr. Pengel brings personal perspective as both an athlete and a sports parent of three children. Watching her children participate in youth and high school sports deepened her appreciation for the powerful role coaches and sport culture play in shaping confidence, resilience, and character.
Her work has been recognized with several honors, including Channel 7’s Everyday Hero award, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainers’ Association President’s Award, and designation as a 5280 Top Doctor.
