Stepping Up For PCA-Los Angeles

08.29.2018

This past Sunday afternoon marked the first ever PCA-Los Angeles STADIUM STAMPEDE at UCLA’s Drake Stadium. The weather was perfectly sunny and 75˚, setting the mark for a great day.

Greeted by a Gold medalist gymnast and UCLA Gymnastics national champions, 80+ people checked into the stadium, receiving UCLA Health/Lakers goodie bags upon arrival.

Everyone was met with lively music and lots of incredible teams of families and friends alike who came out to “sweat for good.”

Special shout outs to all who showed up for “Scholars, Dreamers, and Champions,” “Ellen’s Energetic and Enthusiastic Runners,” “Minix Family Madness,” “116 Dream Team,” “Izzy Fans,” “Sports Teach,” “Lead With Marti Reed,” “Students Run LA,” “Edison Family Climb Challenge,” and “Women of Fox Sports.”

After a PCA intro by PCA-LA Development Manager and former UCLA softball national champion, Marti Reed, and a Stadium Stampede intro by myself (by the way--that makes three separate UCLA Championship-winning teams in attendance!), we were ready to rock and roll into an awesome group warm up led by Julie Guthrie.

And then we hit the stairs! Combining stadium running with some fun partner exercises at the bottom of each section, we were all sure to be sweating in no time.

It was incredible to see people of all ages able to enjoy a workout together. Logan (4) and Jaedyn (6) Minix really set the bar high!

Students Run LA definitely took the title for biggest group in attendance, and they KILLED IT in the workout! Each of them went home with a Bluetooth speaker prize for all their hard work. Thanks to Beverly Hills Basketball League for sponsoring their participation!

And I want to give another MASSIVE thank you to Bob Robinson from Boston Private, Bruce Horowitz from Beverly Hills Basketball League, and Kyle Eversgerd from LA Rams for sponsoring my “116 Dream Team.” I had such a great time helping put this event together and getting some friends and family out there!

We were lucky to have several AMAZING in-kind sponsors supplying prizes of a free OrangeTheory Fitness class, a $300 value JoyRide bike package, Kendra Scott Jewelry, a signed Chelsea Gray LA Sparks jersey, a beach volleyball package from Olympic Gold Medalist Eric Fonoimoana, Big 5 and Dick’s Sporting Goods gift cards, and AYSO swag bags. Not to mention Gatorade and Propel Water provided snacks and hydration for everyone throughout the workout!

Together, we raised over $8,200 that will all go toward PCA-LA providing valuable resources to youth sports. That includes $1,000 matching from Positive Tracks, who were an invaluable resource in putting this event together. Huge THANK YOU to each and every person that contributed to our efforts—it is SO appreciated!

We hope to develop “BETTER ATHLETES, BETTER PEOPLE” through sports done right every day, and this event was just one example of how the platform of sports can bring people together. We all had a great time as we “sweat for good” with each other, and each of us got to experience the joy and fulfillment of using fitness to promote a valuable cause.
