SVFC Provides Online Training and Support to Young Athletes During COVID-19

LONGMONT, CO (April 27, 2020) The Positive Coaching Alliance, a national nonprofit organization with the mission of creating positivity and character-building in the youth sports environment, has given high-praise to the St. Vrain Football Club (SVFC), one of the area’s most popular youth soccer organizations, for its engaging and proactive approach to staying connected to its young team members and coaches during COVID-19.

SVFC began its "Own Your Own Development" program in late March. This involves providing live Zoom workshops that allow the athletes to virtually meet, talk to, and learn skills from their coaches. Athletes are also independently showing how they are staying active by submitting fun technical videos (juggling, shooting, dribbling, etc.) to SVFC's Facebook page. SVFC has also encouraged PCA's Athlete Online Course, "Becoming a Triple-Impact Competitor," to keep their athletes mentally prepared and engaged with their teammates and their community.

“We may not be on the playing field together right now,” said Daniel Jones, executive director of SVFC. “But we can still help our players stay physically and mentally active.

“I am so proud of our staff and coaches for being able to provide the best online training platform in Northern Colorado,” Jones added. “We are leading the way and setting a high bar for those around us.”

According to Amy Duba, partnership manager for PCA-Colorado, “SVFC is providing a caring climate by working hard to make sure their players are staying physically, technically, and mentally sharp during this time.

“I have always appreciated what sport psychologist Dr. Mary Fry said,” Duba added. “Fry said that ‘sport psychology research tells us that teams that provide a caring climate, one in which its members feel safety and love, are significantly more successful by almost every measure. Not only do team members feel better and have a more enjoyable experience, they also enjoy better health and perform better both as individuals and collectively.’”

  • Youth experience improved life skills and character development.  They also perform better!
  • Coaches become more positive and increase their focus on using sports to teach life lessons.
  • Youth Sports Organizations & Schools see their cultures become more positive and everyone involved has more fun.

Since its founding in 1998, PCA has established 18 chapters nationwide, partnered with roughly 3,500 schools and youth sports organizations to deliver more than 20,000 live group workshops, reaching over 20 million youth.
