Awards for high school student-athletes are tied to athletics, academics, and character
Tampa – Positive Coaching Alliance-Tampa Bay – the local chapter of the national non-profit Positive Coaching Alliance that develops “Better Athletes, Better People” through youth and high school sports – welcomes back Sagicor Life Insurance Company (Sagicor Life) as the presenting sponsor of the Class of 2019 Triple-Impact Competitor® Scholarship Awards.
PCA-Tampa Bay’s program honors area high school student-athletes who impact sport on three levels by making themselves, their teammates and the game they play better. These student-athletes serve as a model for all student-athletes across the Tampa Bay community by living up to the principles PCA-Tampa Bay cultivates. Student-athletes participate in community education programs delivered in conjunction with Hillsborough County Public Schools, Pasco County Schools, Manatee County Schools, and Pinellas County Schools.
"We are pleased that Sagicor Life has agreed to sponsor our scholarship program for a third straight year. Their continued commitment will directly benefit student-athletes by fully underwriting the scholarships we plan to present at our awards ceremony in Spring 2019,” said PCA-Tampa Bay Chapter Executive Director Mark Sakalosky. "Through Sagicor Life’s generosity, we have been able to award $125,000 to deserving student-athletes since 2014. Sagicor’s continued sponsorship of this important program makes it possible for us to recognize local student-athletes making a positive impact throughout the Tampa Bay community."
PCA nationally received nearly 3,000 applications for Triple-Impact Competitor® scholarships from the Class of 2019. All applicants submitted essays explaining how they embody the Triple-Impact Competitor ideal and a minimum of three testimonial letters from coaches, athletic directors, teammates, employers or civic/religious leaders. PCA-Tampa Bay has named 44 finalists who will be recognized as role models for all student-athletes in the months ahead.
“Sagicor Life recognizes the important role that high school sports play in the Tampa Bay community,” said Bart Catmull, President, Sagicor Life Insurance Company. “Student-athletes who participate in high school sports gain the opportunity to learn important lessons that benefit them not only on the playing field but in every aspect of their lives. We are proud to join PCA- Tampa Bay again this year and to recognize student-athletes who embody the principles of a Triple-Impact Competitor - make the game better, make their teammates better and make themselves better.”
