RISE To Help PCA Battle Racism In Sports

06.24.2020

In these crucial times, we are committed to the ongoing process of improving our community and being a force in education through sports. This includes partnering, strategizing and connecting with thought leaders focused on battling racism and improving diversity, equity and inclusion. Building on our commitment to use sports to battle racism, we are happy to announce our newest Trusted Resource — RISE.

RISE is a national nonprofit that educates and empowers the sports community to eliminate racial discrimination, champion social justice and improve race relations in our country. RISE’s programs are rooted in its uniquely designed curriculum of experiential learning activities that increase an understanding of racial equity and build cultural competence, equipping athletes, students, coaches and sports administrators at all levels of sport with the tools to be leaders in addressing racism, prejudice, diversity and inclusion. RISE often takes a train-the-trainer approach to administer its programs, where administrators, coaches and athletes are trained to facilitate our curriculum with their teams, strengthening the capacity of their organization to independently address these topics.

Sports Can Battle Racism

"RISE’s vision is to create a nation unified through sports committed to racial equity and social justice by educating, empowering and engaging all levels of the sports community. We encourage coaches to bring our educational curriculum to their teams to empower their athletes and communities," said CEO Diahann Billings-Burford. "Not only do our programs help athletes and coaches better understand critical issues such as race and diversity, but coaches at every level have come back to us and said the RISE curriculum positively influenced team camaraderie and chemistry. We're excited to work with the Positive Coaching Alliance and coaches everywhere as we continue our mission."
