Recap: Junior Warriors Virtual Parent Forum

04.05.2021

Warriors Basketball Academy hosted a live panel discussion on the state of youth basketball and how parents can best support their kids as we navigate the continued uncertainty of the pandemic. Former NBA Player and Warriors consultant, Zaza Pachulia, former NBA Player and Warriors community ambassador, Jason Richardson, Official Team Physician of the Golden State Warriors and Orthopedic Surgeon with the Permanente Medical Group, Dr. Chris Lehman, and Positive Coaching Alliance National Lead Trainer, Kelly Kratz, discussed the current youth sports landscape, mental health, and the nuances associated with the role of being a basketball parent in 2021. The discussion was moderated by LeagueApps President, Jeremy Goldberg.

"The more rest these kids can get and ease back into it and realize they aren't going to get back into shape the first day of practice or the first week. It might take them a month to get back into the condition that they were in." - Jason Richardson

"In general, sports have been very safe and that's the best thing to pay attention to.  There have not been documented cases of cross scrimmage line or goal line contamination of one team to another with covid. One player or team crossing it to the other team has generally been pretty safe." - Dr. Chris Lehman

"Sports offer a lot of great things. A lot of values and life lessons.  So when it comes to the discipline, professionalism, the leadership, the healthy life, the preparation and most importantly the relationships.  I just retired two years ago and these values are still inside me." - Zaza Pachulia
