PCA Receives Fiesta Bowl Charities Grant for 8th Straight Year, Continuing Legacy of Supporting Youth, Sports & Education in Arizona

11.08.2021

SCOTTSDALE, AZ
In continuation of their ongoing mission to support Youth, Sports, and Education initiatives in Arizona, Fiesta Bowl Charities has awarded a $100,000 grant to Positive Coaching Alliance of Arizona. These funds will go directly to help fund PCA programming and workshops in schools and in under-funded youth organizations around the State of Arizona.

Sports ultimately teach us our greatest lessons in life and provide a springboard to excel both in the classroom and in life. The goal is to reinforce positive behaviors at all levels of youth sports by delivering character education resources so every child can become the best competitor and person that he or she can be. Specifically, partnerships with middle & high schools, as well as underserved youth organizations and Public Parks & Recreation programs across the State of Arizona will create a Development Zone, utilizing a combination of in-person and Zoom workshops. It is widely known from research that when kids are allowed to participate in athletics through a Development Zone, they are more likely to stick with their sport. This provides a broader impact to the student beyond athletics.

“Fiesta Bowl Charities continues to show why they are one of the most influential and impactful community leaders in the State of Arizona,” said PCA Regional Director Rich Tomey. “PCA and Fiesta Bowl Charities share a common mission that focuses on providing the leaders of tomorrow with real-life tools, through youth, sports and education initiatives. Without the support of Fiesta Bowl Charities, our presence and impact in the State of Arizona would not be what it is today.”

Through its two annual bowl games in the Valley, the PlayStation® Fiesta Bowl and the Guaranteed Rate Bowl, as well as community events throughout the year, Fiesta Bowl Charities has selected 51 Arizona non-profits through its 2021-22 Grant Cycle. Over 575,000 Arizonans will be impacted by the Fiesta Bowl Charities Grant Recipients!

“We are committed to enhancing the lives of Arizonans and by supporting the Positive Coaching Alliance and their amazing grassroots efforts, we are collectively making a meaningful difference,” said Patrick Barkley, Chair of the Fiesta Bowl Board of Directors. “Giving back to the Arizona community has been core to the Fiesta Bowl mission since we were founded 50 years ago, from our Board of Directors to Yellow Jacket Committee, volunteers and staff.”

“The last year has been incredibly challenging for us all and that is why it is very important that the Fiesta Bowl still deliver these necessary funds to PCA-Arizona,” said Fiesta Bowl Executive Director Mike Nealy. “The heroes are nonprofits like PCA across Arizona who use these funds to improve people’s lives, right where they need it. We are part of this community and it’s our mission to give back to the community.”
