Lead Her Forward

02.01.2019

Inspire Girls, Honor Women.

Celebrate the 33rd annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) Wednesday, February 6, 2019 by cheering on a girls’ or women’s team, or two, skate at the TD Garden. Whatever you do, take a picture of yourself celebrating NGWSD any way you like and send it to beth_maloney@positivecoach.org and we will post it!

NGWSD celebrates the importance of fair play, of Title IX, and of the promise of equal opportunity in sports. PCA partners everywhere are celebrating, here are just a few of the February options, we hope to see you there! This year’s theme for NGWSD is Lead Her Forward, honoring those who are committed to providing equitable access in sports to all girls and women, including New England’s own Meghan Duggan, 2018 Olympic gold medalist, Two-time Olympic silver medalist, Captain of the U.S. Women’s National Ice Hockey Team.

Meghan and the 2017 U.S. Women’s National Hockey Team won the Women’s Sports Foundation Wilma Rudolph Courage Award for fighting for equitable treatment – to increase training stipends and promote the participation of more girls and women in their sport – and for their solidarity in announcing their willingness to boycott the Women’s World Championships.

Meghan Duggan says: "Sports have changed my life forever. Throughout the course of my career, I have come to learn that the true definition of success is not solely defined by wins and losses but rather by the person sports make us become. Sports provide us with a unique opportunity to learn many lessons, such as: overcoming adversity, working together with teammates, and self-empowerment. I proudly support the WSF and National Girls and Women in Sports Day, and believe that all girls, everywhere should be inspired and empowered through sport!"Saturday, February 2 at 7:30 pm at Warrior Ice Arena / NWHL Boston Pride v.
