Student-Athlete Profile

One unique way that I have honored the game is through becoming a licensed referee. When I was 12, I became a referee and I have been one ever since. Being a ref is not an easy job. Referees are constantly under the pressure to make the right decision and often have coaches and parents yelling at them, even when they do make the right decision. After experiencing the stress referees have to endure, I am much more careful to respect the officials that ref my games. I know how they feel, and I want to always respect their calls even if I do not fully agree with them. I never raise my voice at an official or argue with their calls in respect for what they do. I am very glad that I became a referee because I have learned more about respect and about the game as a whole.” - Knox
