Hillsborough County Teaches PCA's Character Development Program Year-round

11.30.2020

In the summer of 2018, Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation and PCA-Tampa Bay teamed up to provide character development in their summer camps for kids.  After that successful summer, the organizations expanded the program to all of the county's after-school programs.  With the help of the Spurlino Foundation, BayCare Health System, and the county itself, PCA-Tampa Bay has been able to continue to provide, develop, customize, and update its Character Development Program for all the staff and youth that participate in their summer camps and after-school programs.

"I just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful discussions that the Westchase Recreation Center staff are providing to the kids about "Growth Mindset". Gabriel is enjoying these activities very much and learning a great deal about perseverance, accepting challenges and efforts. We parents do our best to encourage this mentality in our children, but many times the message reaches deeper if it comes from their rec leaders, whom they also appreciate and have a lot of respect for.
We've always felt thankful that Gabriel is part of such a great program like Westchase Recreation Center, but during this time of uncertainty, it makes me feel so grateful to know that that Gabriel will always have a wonderful group of leaders who not only instill in him a love of sports, but also give them life tools to be a better person."
