Target Field was bursting with energy for youth sports at Breakfast with the Champions event on May 9th with 300+ in attendance. The program was hosted by Kelcey Carlson, Fox 9 Anchor and Anthony LaPanta, FOX Sports North Commentator who both shared their own sports experience and introduced Harvey Mackay, best-selling business book author, speaker, syndicated columnist & sports enthusiast and that was just the beginning. Mackay’s storytelling was delightful and demonstrated that hard work, a never-quit attitude, and great teamwork have positive payoffs in sports, in business, and in life.
After Mackay, one of the youngest and brightest coaches in college footbal, PJ Fleck, Head Gopher Football Coach, took the stage and commanded attention in the way only a head coach can.
Fleck stated “Great leaders influence those around them and need to do three things: Lift (inspire & grow), Look (know what’s going on in the organization and be proactive) & Listen (it’s hard to take time to understand your team).” Fleck went on to credit great coaches in his life, including Mike Nolan and Jim Tressel, both whom he models himself after by wearing ties for games and important events.
