Coaches Steal The Show At Star-Studded Virtual National Youth Sports Awards & Benefit

04.19.2021

Last night we celebrated Positive Coaching Alliance's first-ever virtual National Youth Sports Awards & Benefit. Nearly 1,000 guests tuned in from across the US and the globe, helping us raise over $530,000!

The event was headlined by some of the most recognizable names in professional sports, including Stephen Curry, Derek Jeter, Adam Silver, and Cathy Engelbert. Additionally, we honored the 75 Regional Winners and 25 National Winners of the Double-Goal Coach® Award presented by TeamSnap.

We ended the evening by awarding our Coach of the Year with the $10,000 Taube Family Prize in Recognition of Excellence in Coaching to Charles Adams III, Football Coach at Minneapolis North High School for his incredible impact on his team, school, and community.

Given the unparalleled challenges of the past twelve months, this year's benefit was escpecially meaningful to us. After the event pre-show, where we highlighted our event sponsors and thanked our host committee, the event kicked off with a look back at the obstacles we all faced during this challenging time in our country and how it was reflected in the world of sports.  And, more importantly,  how PCA and others rose to the challenge.

This was followed by a brief message from PCA CEO Chris Moore, who welcomed attendees to our first-ever virtual event. Shortly after, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert joined to discuss the impact of the NBA and WNBA off the court over the last 12 months, highlighting how they've helped in communities hit by COVID and worked to end racial injustice.

After honoring Adam Silver and Cathy Engelbert, we shared a very special tribute to PCA’s Founder and longtime CEO Jim Thompson. PCA was founded by Jim back in 1998 on the campus of Stanford University. And over the last 22 years, PCA has not only been a leader in positive youth development through sports but has been THE organization to start the conversation focused on developing a positive culture in youth sports. In this video, key figures like Nike CEO John Donahoe, NBA Champion Head Coach Steve Kerr, Former NBA Player Shane Battier, USWNT Legend Brandi Chastain, and others highlighted the legacy and impact of Jim Thompson.

Before we moved the spotlight to this year's Double-Goal Coach® award winners, we shared inspirational stories of PCA's impact on communities across the country over the last year, including PCA’s partnership with Curry Brand and Stephen Curry in Oakland, CA.

Stephen Curry shared his thoughts on his partnership with PCA to "change the game for good," starting by investing in coach training within Oakland Unified School District and Oakland Parks and Recreation.

And last, but certainly not least, we celebrated the impact of the best youth and high school coaches from across the country- the winners of PCA's National Double-Goal Coach® Award presented by TeamSnap. The 75 regional winners were recognized during the preshow and the 25 national winners were highlighted during the main program.

We concluded the evening with the announcement of our Coach of the Year who received the $10,000 Taube Family Prize in Recognition of Excellent in Coaching. Charles Adams III was our winner and we were able to see the incredible impact he is making with his team, school, and community in his video feature liked below.

At the event, PCA also highlighted the stories of two other national winners, and you can watch their inspiring stories by clicking on each coach's name below:
