Coaches Commit To Character Education

03.01.2019

PCA-Colorado wrapped up its first ever Coaching Character Initiative last night, with a celebration at the Denver Nuggets Game. The program was made possible by the ongoing support of PCA-Colorado Supporter, The Daniels Fund.

In this program, select high school Coaches from around the Denver Metro Area were provided resources that they could take back to their teams and schools to continue the education around developing Elevat3rs (those student-athletes who impact their sport on 3 levels- elevating themselves, their teammates, and the game) on their teams.

Coaches attended two half-day workshops in October and December, and conducted monthly calls in between to collaborate on what was working, what they were finding, and to provide feedback on the program as a whole. Coaches were introduced, and helped PCA pilot, a potential new PCA concept - helping student-athletes embrace, and strive towards the identity of an Elevat3r.

The program wrapped up with a celebration at the Denver Nuggets vs. Utah Jazz game on February 28th. PCA supporter, The Denver Nuggets graciously donated a suite to help honor the coaches, and honored them with an on-court presentation.

PCA-Colorado Executive Director Tom Puzio reflected on the event, stating, "The tools that these coaches now have will provide them the resources needed to equip their kids to be successful not only as athletes, but as people too. We are excited to see the results and are looking forward to the next iteration of the program." Overall, the program was an opportunity for PCA to take a deep-dive and see how educating coaches through the power of identity could help student-athletes become both better athletes, and better people.
