PCA Updates
PCA wishes the Las Vegas Aces and the Connecutict Sun good luck in the WNBA Finals!
To kick off the first game of the finals, we wanted to highlight teachable moments that several WNBA players have demonstrated throughout their careers.
Renee Montgomery (former professional WNBA player, sports broadcaster, and activist) on social justice: “When we see something we say something... WNBA players are more apt to speak out... we speak out for people who don’t have a platform or voice.”
Sandy Brondello (head coach of the NY Liberty) on teamwork: “You have to have the right culture... it’s building relationships... empowering them too to buy into the team concept and teamwork because it’s way more fun winning as a team.”
Ruthie Bolton (former WNBA player) Using a Full Court Press to Fight Social Injustice: “On the other side of injustice - optimistic mindset... get in the full court press... sense of urgency that I feel we now have to take time to get off the sidelines.”
Tamera Young (WNBA player) on Supporting Teammates: “I could guide her on how she can do better with her time and relax and not be so stressed... and so the bond became stronger, having someone else who can guide you.”
Through our work in the Gender Equity Initiative, a key of Positive Coaching Alliance is working together with partners and community organizations to get more girls in the game and more women coaching, especially in under-served communities and communities of color. Congratulations to the WNBA for 25+ years and best of luck to both teams in the finals!
