Alex Delgado, Tampa Bay United Rowdies Soccer Club, Wins Positive Coaching Alliance-Tampa Bay’s Regional Double-Goal Coach® Award

02.26.2020

February 2020, Tampa, FL – Alex Delgado, soccer coach at Tampa Bay United Rowdies Soccer Club (TBUR), is one of five Regional Winners for Positive Coaching Alliance-Tampa Bay’s Double-Goal Coach® Awards presented for his positive impact on youth in sports.

The Double-Goal Coach® Awards recognize coaches who strive to win while also pursuing the important goal of teaching life lessons through sports. The chapter award includes a certificate, two tickets to a Tampa Bay Lightning game, a suite to a Tampa Bay Rays game, and recognition within the websites and newsletters of Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), a national non-profit developing Better Athletes, Better People through youth and high school sports.

“Coach Alex’s dedication to helping kids is unmatched,” said Blake Wagner, TBUR Developmental Academy Program Director. “Not only is he a leader on the field, but he is very dedicated to helping players off the field, as well, whether that is with school, family, or helping build character.”

Delgado currently coaches TBUR’s Boys Developmental Academy U13 and U17 teams. Tiffany Ayer, parent of a U13 player, said, “Coach Alex is constantly teaching on the field and if a mistake is commented upon, it is in a manner to help the player understand how he can improve in a situation and never designed to dwell on a misstep. To see a one of his players run and jump in his arms after a big goal in a competitive game is all the proof you need of how he fuels their game, their minds and their hearts.”

Delgado grew up playing for the Clearwater Chargers before attending The University of Tampa as a member of the men’s soccer team from 2003-2007. He began his coaching career at Palm Harbor University High School as head coach from 2007-2013, leading the team to a state championship in 2009 and reaching three final fours in his tenure. In 2013, he served as an assistant coach for the Spartans and became Director of Operations for The University of South Florida women’s soccer team from 2018-2020. Delgado is in his 14th year coaching at TBUR where he has served as North Academy Director and is currently a Developmental Academy Head Coach.

“We are excited to honor Coach Delgado and we are proud of what he is doing in our community,” said Mason Cathey Brady, Executive Director of PCA-Tampa Bay, the local Chapter of Positive Coaching Alliance. “Please help us in congratulating him as a regional winner.”

Positive Coaching Alliance will name twenty-five (25) National Double-Goal Coach® recipients, each of whom will receive $1,000 and two (2) tickets to the National Youth & Sports Awards in California in April 2020.
