2025 National Sports Equity Convening Event Recap

02.25.25
Thank you to everyone who took part in the National Sports Equity Convening, brought to you by Positive Coaching Alliance and the LA84 Foundation. Your presence, insights, and commitment helped create a powerful space for collaboration, learning, and action. Together, we are shaping a future where all young people—regardless of background—can access the positive, transformative experiences of sports, play, and movement.
Throughout the day, we explored key strategies of PCA’s Sports Equity Framework:

Strategy #1: Research & Community Organizing – Grounding our work in data and lived experiences to drive meaningful change.

Strategy #2: Collective Action & Capacity Building – Strengthening networks and equipping leaders with the tools to advance equity.

Strategy #3: Advocacy, Policy & Evaluation – Leveraging evidence-based strategies to influence systems and measure impact. We were excited to announce that Assemblymember Tina McKinnor has introduced legislation (AB749) in the California State Legislature to study the creation of a California Commission/Department of Youth Sports. This body’s goal would be to create a unified, equitable, and sustainable framework for youth sports in California to ensure all children have an opportunity to engage in sports for its physical, mental, and academic benefits.
This convening was just the beginning. The real work happens as we take these ideas forward—building on connections made, applying lessons learned, and pushing for lasting change.

Let’s keep the momentum going and continue this work—together.
