Trainers - Colorado
Shawn Stein grew up in Westminster, CO and played soccer for 40+ years in leagues and pick-up games around the world. He has also lived and worked in Brazil, Chile, Mexico, New Zealand, and the United States. Shawn earned his BA in Spanish from the University of Colorado, Boulder and his MA and PhD in Spanish from the University of California, Riverside. As an undergraduate, he coached several seasons of U12 in the Boulder Junior Soccer League. Shawn worked as a professor of Latin American studies and Spanish and Portuguese for 17 years and his passion has always been fútbol (as a player, coach and fan), which led him to found and co-organize a community-focused organization called the Día de Fútbol at Washington College from 2007-2015. He has published on “fair play” in Soccer & Society. Shawn is also the editor of an anthology of Latin American soccer fiction with editions in Spanish and English: Por amor a la pelota (2014) and Idols and Underdogs (2016). Shawn recently returned home to the Denver area where he founded MalandroStyle, LLC (coaching/consulting services) and had the pleasure of serving as a youth soccer coach and president of the board of directors for Balón USA.
