Dr. Sharin Sakurai Burton, MD, PhD

Dr. Sakurai Burton earned her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed her residency in neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital. She then did a fellowship in movement disorders at the University of Michigan. Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Sakurai Burton earned a doctorate in neuroscience, also from the University of Michigan.
Dr. Sakurai Burton is board certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She joined HPMG in 2003 and is based at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center. She’s a member of the American Academy of Neurology and Hawaii Neurological Society.
Dr. Sakurai Burton’s clinical interest include Movement Disorders and Stroke. In 2018, Dr. Sakurai Burton created the Integrated Physical Rehabilitation Department at Kaiser Permanente Hawaii, which integrates several aspects of pain medicine, physiatry, and other related services. She also serves as one of the co-leaders for Kaiser Permanente Hawaii’s tremendously successful opioids management program.
