Katie Kemp
Student-Athlete, Robinson High School
“As a freshman, creating a habit of reviewing film of each volleyball match and flag football game was new to me, but my coaches constantly emphasized its importance as much as they did the fundamentals of both sports. Over the course of my high school career, I went from watching what happened in my games to watching what did not happen; more specifically, I started to notice blocks that could have happened or interceptions that should have happened. I started to imagine alternatives to the situations I studied, allowing me to foster a deeper understanding of what worked, what did not, and why. Although it did not happen overnight, my perseverance transformed me from a novice into a film-watching specialist and helped me improve as an athlete.”
