Rob Johnson

Master of Ceremonies, CBS2 Chicago

Rob Johnson is the weekday anchor of the CBS 2 Chicago evening newscasts at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

He joined CBS 2 Chicago in August, 2006 from WLS-TV where he worked since 1998 as weekend anchor and reporter.

Rob has covered many major news events during his career, including most of the Presidential Campaigns over the last 25 years. In the summer of 2016, he covered the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Rob also had a front-row seat to some of our Chicago sports teams’ special moments, having chronicled the Blackhawks’ three Stanley Cup Championships, and the Cubs’ 2016 World Series victory.

During his career, Rob has been at the scene of other major news stories, including Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Andrew, the Centennial Park Bombing during the Atlanta Olympics, the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster in Houston, and 2000 Florida presidential vote recount.

Rob has also covered Papal visits to Denver and St. Louis, and has reported from the countries of Haiti, Mexico, Honduras, and Germany, traveling with then-Illinois Lt. Governor Pat Quinn in 2007, as he visited with wounded servicemen and women.

Before moving to Chicago, Rob worked at KPRC-TV in Houston, as an anchor and reporter. Prior to that, he served as an anchor and reporter at stations in Arkansas and Louisiana. Rob began his broadcasting career as a newsroom intern at CNN in Washington, D.C.

Rob has won multiple Emmy Awards. He has also received awards from the Chicago Headline Club, Associated Press, Belle Center of Chicago, Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, North Shore Special Education District, Ukrainian National Museum, Neumann Family Services, Spirito! Singers, UCP/Seguin, St. Coletta’s of Illinois, and Voices for Illinois Children. On September 22, 2011, Governor Pat Quinn proclaimed it “Rob Johnson Day” in Illinois, as recognition for his advocacy for people with disabilities.

Rob earned his B.A. in Communication from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana in 1990. He serves on the Board of Directors for Special Olympics Illinois, Concussion Legacy Foundation, and Inner City Education Program. Rob is also an Associate Member of the Chicago Blackhawk Alumni, and writes a column for The Hinsdalean newspaper.

In his spare time, he enjoys ice hockey and golf. Rob and his wife, Stacy, live with their son in the western suburbs.
