Karen C. Francis is an experienced CEO, board director, investor and Senior Advisor to TPG Capital. She is Chair of the Board of Vontier (NYSE:VNT), a $3B spin-off from Fortive Corporation which is focused on mobility and transportation businesses. She also serves as a director and is on the Audit and Compensation committees of TuSimple (NASDAQ: TSP), leading autonomous truck technology company, and as a director and Chair of Nominating & Governance Committee for Quanergy (NYSE:QNGY) which provides industrial, security and smart city LiDAR technology solutions. Karen recently served on the board and as Audit Chair of Reinvent Technology Partners Y (NASDAQ:RTPYU), a $1B SPAC founded by Reid Hoffman which acquired Aurora Innovation, Inc.  She was previously the Lead Independent Director and Chair of Compensation Committee of Telenav (NASDAQ:TNAV) which provides embedded navigation systems for major automotive manufacturers.  She has also served on the AutoNation (NYSE:AN) Board of Directors, Audit, and Technology Committees and The Hanover Insurance Group (NYSE:THG) Board of Directors, Audit, and Compensation Committees.  Ms. Francis is an Independent Director for private equity and venture capital funded companies in Silicon Valley including Nauto, an artificial intelligence-based driver technology platform, Metawave, which builds radars for both automotive, aerial, and 5G markets, Wind River, which powers software for embedded intelligent connected systems, and CelLink, innovative flexible automotive circuits automotive.  Karen is a Certified Board Governance Fellow and was named “Top 50 Corporate Director in 2019” by the National Association of Corporate Directors. She is a founding member of Women Corporate Directors and Women’s Director Salon of Silicon Valley and is an advisor to several venture capital funds including Lead Edge Capital, Operator Collective, and Tech Pioneers Fund.  She is a frequent speaker on the topic of corporate governance for Stanford’s Rock Center for Corporate Governance, NACD, KPMG, PWC, and Deloitte and on the future of the automotive and technology industries for CES, Deloitte Smart Cities, and Automotive News among others. Karen maintains a CERT Certificate in Cybersecurity Oversight from Carnegie Mellon University.

Karen’s executive career culminated in over ten years as Chairman & CEO, of AcademixDirect -a leading technology innovator in education, and of Publicis & Hal Riney - an advertising and digital marketing agency within the Publicis network.  Karen is widely acknowledged for her success in the automotive industry both as General Manager of the $8 billion Oldsmobile Division of General Motors and then as Vice President of Ford Motor Company, where she was responsible for the corporate venture capital group, global technology business strategies, customer relationship management, and worldwide export operations.  Her career has also included executive positions at Procter & Gamble, Internet Capital Group, Bain & Company, and Berol Corporation.  In 2019, Karen was named one of the “Top 100 Women of Influence” by the Silicon Valley Business Journal, selected as one of the “100 Most Influential Women in Advertising” by Advertising Age in 2012, and named as one of the “Top 100 Chief Executive Officers” in the US ranking 8th among female CEOs by ExecRank.

Karen holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in economics from Dartmouth College, where she served as a Trustee from 2000-2009 and is a charter member of the philanthropic Centennial Circle of Alumnae. She was selected as one of the Top 100 Harvard Business School Alumnae in the Bay Area in 2013 and is the founder of the HBS Women of Northern California Fellowship. Karen resides in Atherton, CA, is married with two stepsons, is an avid wine collector and vintner in Healdsburg, CA.
