Jim Etzel is a successful entrepreneur with over 28 years of experience in the sports, entertainment and marketing industries. He is the founder and president of ETZEL (formerly SportsOne), a sports, entertainment, lifestyle and event agency based in Portland, Oregon. Agency clients include: ESPN, College Football Playoff (CFP), TrackTownUSA, Nike, Adidas, Columbia Sportswear, Gannett/USAToday, Pure Storage, BuzzFeed, NetJets, and Safeway.
Before founding ETZEL, Jim served as Director, Western Region for Regency Productions by Hyatt, a sports and entertainment marketing subsidiary of Hyatt Corporation. As a member of the Executive Team based in Los Angeles, Jim led major account partnership sales, strategic alliances and business development for the Western Region. Major events handled by Regency included the PGA Championship and Ryder Cup, NFL Super Bowl, NBA All-Star Weekend, the NCAA Final four and the America’s Cup.
From 1987-1994, Jim served as Director of business Development and Senior Account Executive for Peter Jacobsen Productions in Portland, Oregon. His primary duties there included major account partnership sales for the Fred Meyer Challenge and other event properties, and the development and acquisition of new event properties. Jim began his career in sports marketing with Louisiana Pacific Corporation where he was involved with the Davis Cup, Nike tennis exhibitions and USA Volleyball tours.
Jim holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in communications from the University of Portland. Jim currently serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board (Chairman 2010-13) for the University of Portland’s Pamplin School of Business which included him in its Significant Seventy-Five Esteemed Alumni in 2009. Jim also serves on the Board of PCA-Portland (Positive Coaching Alliance) and the Brian Henninger Foundation.
