Dr. Akilah Carter-Francique

Executive Director, Institute for the Study of Sport, Society, and Social Change (ISSSSC), SJSU

Akilah was born in Topeka, Kansas. She grew up with a passion for sport, participating in track and field, martial arts, and volleyball at the youth and high school level. She was a member of the track and field team at the University of Houston (UH) participating in 100 meter hurdles and long jump. Sport participation and education serve as a mainstay in Akilah's life then and now. She is currently an associate professor in higher education at San José State University and the Executive Director for the Institute for the Study of Sport, Society and Social Change.
