At PCA-Chicago's 6th Annual Scholarship and Awards Dinner, roughly 200 PCA supporters gathered to celebrate all 20 finalists in the Triple-Impact Competitor® Scholarship Program Sponsored by Deloitte and these winners of $2,500 scholarships:
Danna Gallegos, Golder College Prep
Robert Holt, Northside College Prep
Arina Kim, Glenbrook South High School
Alexandra Turner, Crystal Lake South High School
Luke Zarzecki, Whitney M. Young Magnet High School.
The November 11 event at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile also presented the WNBA's Chicago Sky with an Honoring the Game Award and Byron Spruell with the Triple-Impact Professional Award for his accomplishments as Vice Chairman of the Central Region and Chicago Managing Principal for Deloitte LLP.
Explaining the awards, Tai Duncan, PCA-Chicago Chapter Executive Director, said: “PCA’s definition of sportsmanship is what we call ‘Honoring the Game’, where you show respect for the rules, your opponents, the officials, your teammates and yourself. The Sky organization not only competes at a high level and respects all aspects of the game of basketball, it also gives back to Chicago through the Sky Cares Foundation.
“As for Byron's award, he is an extraordinary business and civic leader, and a wonderful example to the high school students we recognized at the dinner. He has applied many of the lessons learned through playing sports and observing world-class coaches in his remarkable career in business, and now acts as a model sports parent to his children. Byron exemplifies the kind of leader and teammate we hope these student-athletes aspire to be.”
