PCA-Sacramento Receives $10,000 MassMutual Foundation Grant

06.27.2018

PCA-Sacramento, a nonprofit organization focused on helping kids become better athletes, and better people through a positive, character-building youth sports experience, has received a $10,000 grant from the MassMutual Foundation as part of a national Community Service Award (CSA) program. PCA is one of twenty-two organizations nationally to receive an award. The MassMutual Foundation made the grant as a tribute to the volunteer efforts of Doug Van Order, a MassMutual agent with Tier One Financial in Sacramento.

“We are stronger when we come together as a community, and our Community Service Awards program recognizes a group of MassMutual financial professionals who embody this spirit, working with members of their respective neighborhoods, towns, and cities, helping nonprofits with which they are involved grow and thrive,” said Dennis Duquette, Head of MassMutual Community Responsibility and President of the MassMutual Foundation.

“We are proud of the time and energy Doug dedicates to better his community and delighted to support the great work MassMutual financial professionals do with organizations across the country.”

PCA works with local schools and youth sports leagues to ensure that every student-athlete has the opportunity to have a positive youth sports experience. With youth sports as their vehicle, PCA works with athletes, parents, and coaches to help kids develop the skills they need – skills like character, integrity, teamwork, and resilience – to be the best version of themselves on and off the field.

“This incredible opportunity from MassMutual will allow us to provide our programs to thousands of kids in our communities we otherwise wouldn’t be able,” said Zach Streight, Executive Director of PCA-Sacramento. “Every kid deserves the chance to become their best, and MassMutual is helping us make sure this happens.”

Doug has been committed to PCA since 2012 and has been a leader in helping PCA impact thousands and thousands of kids during his time on the board. His time, effort and passion for the PCA mission have been instrumental in the organizations' growth and impact in the Sacramento region.

I am very pleased that my dedication to PCA has been recognized by the MassMutual Foundation. This grant will provide much needed funding to continue supporting our community by partnering with underserved sports leagues, providing PCA programs to organizations like Boys & Girls Clubs and the YMCA, and ensuring that we impact as many kids in our community as possible.
