Peter Varellas

Olympic Water Polo Silver Medalist

Peter Varellas is a 2-time Men’s Water Polo Olympian, representing the United States in the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympic Games. Team USA reached the podium in 2008 for the first time in 20 years, taking home the silver medal. Competing with the National Team for 6 years, Varellas has also participated in 3 FINA World Championships and won 2 gold medals at the 2007 and 2011 Pan-American Games. Professionally, Peter played for Rari Nantes Savona for 4 seasons in Italy.

As an undergraduate at Stanford, Varellas helped the Cardinal to the NCAA championship game in each of his four seasons on The Farm (2002-05), winning the national title in 2002. He graduated in 2006 with a degree in Management Science and Engineering. He returned to Stanford for graduate school, earning his MBA from the Graduate School of Business in 2014. He also served as Men’s Water Polo Volunteer Assistant coach at Stanford from 2010 to 2011.

A native of the Bay Area, Varellas grew up in Moraga, California and currently lives in San Francisco.
