Howard has over 25 years of experience in college athletics as both an athletics director and a men’s basketball coach. His coaching experience includes assistant positions at Southern Illinois University, Roanoke College and Whitworth University. He then served as the head men’s basketball coach at both Eastern Oregon University and Wartburg College.
During his three years as the head coach at Eastern Oregon, he led the Mountaineer's to their best season in 23 years.
In 1996, Howard became the Athletics Director at Briar Cliff University. He went on to serve as an athletic director at Idaho State University, Southwest Minnesota State University, and Cal State Monterey Bay. During his five years as the AD at Idaho State, Howard led the ISU athletics department to their most successful season in the history of the institution.
Howard is now a professor at Idaho State University where he teaches sports leadership, sports management, sports finance, sports marketing and philosophy of sport.
Howard graduated with his bachelor’s degree in Finance from Washington State University. He went on to receive his master’s degree in sports management from St. Thomas University, and his Ph.D. in sports management from Southern Illinois University. He and his wife, Karen, live in Meridian, Idaho.
