Helena is the Director of Expositions and Special Events for the Honolulu Marathon. The Honolulu Marathon Expo is Hawaii’s largest Expo which draws 50,000 people with over 100 vendors. Helena manages booth sales, interfaces with sponsors and major Japan travel agents, and coordinates with HCC and ICES (International Convention and Expo Services). She is also involved with the Junior League of Honolulu, AYSO as a soccer coach, and is President of the Hawaii Horse Show Association directing the Hawaii Hunter/Equitation Horse shows and clinics and organizes the elite national equestrian coaches to teach Hawaii riders.


Helena was born in Helsingborg, Sweden and moved to Honolulu in 1988. She is married to Jim Barahal and they have 3 children in college: Zach at USC, Olivia at University of Michigan and Sebastian at Chapman University. Helena and Jim state that raising their children has been their crowning achievement.


Helena has a B.A. in English from Hawaii Pacific University. She competed in Cross-Country while there and was the conference champion qualifying to run in the NCAA Championships
